As a full-time freediving instructor and underwater photographer, I spend most of my working hours in freshwater cenotes, guiding and capturing freediving action shots—often of freedivers exploring the beauty of these sacred caves and light beams.

My setup has to handle depth changing freediving sessions, tropical weather conditions, and long hours in the water.

Until recently, I mostly used my Canon 5D Mark III — built like a tank and made to survive anything, even when I’m not being overly careful.

But as I started using my Sony A7III more for creative and lightweight setups, I needed a new housing that was lighter, versatile, and specifically useful for my freediving instructor lifestyle.

That’s how I got introduced to Salted Line SeaFrogs and their housing made for the Sony A7III.

First Impressions of the Salted Line Housing

I’ve only used the Salted Line SeaFrogs housing a few times so far, but I already see its strengths—especially for creative sessions, lightweight setups, or anyone working in low-light or difficult access environments like my common dive spots.

What I’ve noticed:

  • Lightweight and compact — easier to handle when freediving with students or models in caves and cenotes.

  • Intuitive control layout — easy access to essential settings underwater.

  • Can do exactly the same as every other housing I’ve owned previously.

I’m still getting to know this housing and how it handles during longer, more demanding workdays. For creative work in clean water environments and lighter, faster setups, it’s doing its job very well so far.

A Note on Gear Care and Safety*

Over the years, I’ve met people who have flooded their underwater housings—losing expensive cameras and lenses inside. This is a common fear among most Underwater Photographers worldwide.

Most of these cases involve users who were inexperienced or not careful enough, rather than careful-professionals.

Here’s an important reminder: no matter what camera, lens, or housing you use, it’s crucial to treat your gear carefully and give it full attention every single session.

Don’t let overconfidence or being too busy with other diving-related tasks (like bookings, operations, teaching, or guiding) lead to careless housing setup. This is a recipe for disaster.

Be mindful and careful with your gear, and it will stay safe and ready to help you create amazing underwater adventures!

Gratitude for the Support

We appreciate the SeaFrogs team for supporting our transition to working more with the Sony A7III (the massive low-light improvements compared to Canon full-frame DSLRs are a game-changer). Getting to test and share our real experience with this housing in Mexico’s unique underwater environments means a lot, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs in more advanced sessions over time!
